CSA_SlabCH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company workers recently broke ground on the site of a future dry cask storage pad for 1,936 radioactive cesium and strontium capsules. The capsules are currently in a safe configuration in an underwater basin at the nearby Waste Encapsulation Storage Facility. Transferring the capsules to dry storage in stainless steel and concrete casks reduces the risk of a radioactive release in the unlikely loss of water from the basin. Check out this animation to learn more about this critical risk reduction project.
